We began to ask questions about Diet-Healthy-Living...

...because of a life-threatening health crisis in our family

Our journey into alternative diet-healthy-living therapies began in 1995 when my 76-year-old mother-in-law, Hazel, had her second heart attack. Her doctors told her that the damage to her heart muscle was so severe that she wouldn’t be expected to live more than three months. They suggested she go home and put her affairs in order.

My husband, Tom, and I moved to California to help take care of her and Tom’s 80-year-old dad. Hazel was bedridden. Even though she had several food allergies, she neglected her allergy diet and ate whatever fat-laden meals and sugar-filled desserts well-meaning folks brought over. What difference did it make anyway if she was going to die? she figured.

We had already been reading about diet-healthy living strategies

Coincidentally, Tom and I had recently finished reading “Fit for Life” and we were beginning to put into practice the diet-healthy-living recommendations made by the Diamonds. We took Hazel to her allergist who recommended increasing her vegetable intake, including raw vegetable juices and minimizing meat, dairy, and processed foods. Hazel began to improve.

Changing our diet overnight

A short while later,we learned that many people overcame chronic pain and disease with a plant-based diet, including lots of raw fresh fruits and vegetables and vegetable juices. We were very impressed by the testimonials we heard. We already had friends that used the green barley juice green barley juice that was recommended, so we ordered some from them. As we read more we learned that Hazel’s heart attack was caused by the excess protein and fat and cholesterol in her diet. We decided that a plant-based diet made sense as a strategy to help her recover.

Both of Tom’s parents, Tom and I changed our diet overnight from the Standard American Diet of meat and potatoes, processed food, white flour and sugary desserts. Instead we ate unprocessed plant food in its most natural form and included vegetable juices as part of our wellness plan.

After three months we were astounded at the results.
