Reverse Type 2 Diabetes Diet

1. Eat a diet high in fiber-rich foods, served as naturally as possible.

A diabetes diet based on plant foods will naturally be high in fiber, which is helpful for slowing the rise of blood sugar from your meal. Fiber, especially soluble fiber, slows the emptying of food from the stomach and helps to slow the absorption of simple sugars in the small intestine.

In contrast, a high fat meal can result in high blood glucose levels for up to five hours after a meal.

When you consume your food in as natural state as possible you receive the most nutrients from your food. You also eliminate the added sugar, salt, preservatives and additives that are typically added to processed food. We are adding healthy recipes weekly. 2. Significantly reduce or eliminate meat

Animal products should be reduced or eliminated by anyone who wants optimum health. Studies show animal products are implicated in the development of cancer, heart disease, digestive disorders and a host of other ailments besides diabetes. A successful reversing diabetes diet will not include animal products.

When you eliminate animal products from your diet you also eliminate:

  • the only source of bad cholesterol
  • synthetic hormones
  • antibiotics
  • excess protein that causes the body to be more acidic
  • a no-fiber food
  • 3. Avoid dairy products

Dairy products have the same problems as other animal products. They are high in fat, and so should be avoided on a reversing diabetes diet.

    Healthier dairy alternatives include:

  • Rice Milk
  • Almond Milk
  • Rice or Almond cheese (however, many of these still include casein, a milk protein in the ingredients. Casein should be avoided)
  • 4. Avoid eggs

It is an animal product, high in fat, protein and cholesterol.

    5. Use whole-grain breads, pasta, and cereals.

  • Ezekiel Bread
  • Homemade bread made with unbleached, unenriched flour
  • Oats, millet, quinoa, couscous are some additional options.
  • 6. Increase your intake of fresh fruits and vegetables.

These options are innumerable. Diabetics are cautioned to limit their intake of fresh fruit if this causes blood sugar instability.

Fresh vegetable juices also can be an important part of a reversing diabetes diet as they help the body rebuild and repair itself.

Convenient green juices made from wheat grass, or in powdered form such as BarleyMax are very helpful. Many diabetics report that their blood sugars become lower using BarleyMax even if they don't make other changes to their diet.

Carrot juice. Many diabetics find that if they add a tablespoon of Udo’s Choice Perfected Oil blend that it helps their blood sugar levels while they get the cell boosting benefits of raw vegetable juices.

It is better to eat fruit whole, rather than in juice form, because the fiber helps to regulate the higher blood sugar levels.

    7. Avoid refined & processed foods.

Processed and refined foods are just about anything in a can, bottle, or box. These frequently have all the nutrition processed out of them. Then sugar, salt, and taste enhancers (including MSG by many different names) are added so the dead food will taste good. These should be avoided.

    8. Reduce intake of fat, grease and sugar.

Fat and grease hinders the cells ability to take in insulin needed to absorb glucose from the blood stream.

Sugar depletes the immune system and leads to mineral imbalances. The diabetic needs his immune system to be fully charged for his or her recovery.

    9. Add healthy oils to the diet.

While you eliminate the unhealthy fats from fried foods, refined oils and other sources, it is important to recognize the body's need for healthy oils such as Flax Seed Oil or Udo’s Choice Perfected Oil Blend that provide essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids that help regulate blood sugar.

    Exercise

While diet is a very important factor in diabetes treatment, exercise is also critical.

  • Exercise helps to burn up the extra sugar in the blood stream.
  • Walk briskly each day. Two 30-minute walks each day can help burn up the extra sugar in your blood.
  • Use a rebounder.
  • Play basketball with the kids.
  • Ride a bike.
  • Look for lifestyle activities that you can enjoy with those you love. Your exercise program can prolong your life and improve your quality of life. Don’t put it off. You won’t regret getting daily exercise.
  • Get your heart pumping
  • Work with a doctor who will monitor you closely to adjust your medications as your body improves.
